The 46-year-old West Babylon man, who has not been named in an effort to protect the victims’ identities, received his conviction on Monday, Feb. 5, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney.

On the morning of Wednesday, June 15, 2023, the man’s wife was sleeping in the bedroom of the couple’s two daughters, ages 5 and 11, after telling the man that she wanted to end their marriage.

According to the trial evidence, he knocked on the bedroom door, asking to talk to the woman in their bedroom, but she refused.

That’s when the man pushed his way into the room. Using a large kitchen knife, he stabbed the woman three times in the arm, hip, and buttocks, screaming that he would kill her and then himself because she was “ruining” his family.

He also took her phone so that she could not call 911.

When the man’s oldest daughter begged him to stop, he told the kids to go into another room.

The DA’s Office said that though the man’s wife was going in and out of consciousness because of the blood loss, she managed to leave the house to seek help from their neighbors. However, when he noticed that she was gone, he chased after her, kicking her in the face.

Hearing the commotion, the neighbor managed to call the authorities. The man fled the scene but was later found nearby by a K9 Unit.

The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she required blood transfusions and surgery for her injuries.

“Leaving a relationship can be the most dangerous time for a victim of domestic violence,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.

“I want victims of intimate partner violence to know that help is available to them.”

After a jury trial, the man was found guilty of the following:

  • Attempted murder, second-degree;
  • Assault, first-degree;
  • Endangering the welfare of a child, two counts; and
  • Criminal possession of a weapon.

He is due back for sentencing on Monday, March 11, where he faces up to 25 years in prison.

Additionally, the SCDA encouraged anyone who may be or who knows a victim of domestic violence to contact the 24-hour hotline for Long Island Against Domestic Violence at 631-666-8833.

The 24-hour Crisis Hopeline for ECLI VIBES, which provides free safety planning, safe housing, food distribution, and counseling services, can be contacted at 631-360-3606.
